To Those Mamas Before Me
To those mamas who came before me, I’m so sorry.
I’m sorry I didn’t hand you $20 when I saw you just because. You probably would have enjoyed a designer coffee.
I’m sorry I didn’t run to the grocery store for you.
I’m sorry I didn’t clean anything when I came over.
I’m sorry I didn’t offer you a nap while I take your kids to the park.
I didn’t know.
I didn’t know how hard it was for you to get anything done that you wanted to get done. I didn’t know how long you had been waiting for the baby to sleep so you could sleep, only to be interrupted.
I didn’t know how long it had been since you showered or how desperately you just wanted to get a clean shirt on.
I didn’t know how lonely you were.
I didn’t know what to ask or how to check in on you.
I am so sorry that I wasn’t the friend you needed, and thank you for keeping me anyway.
